The Experience of Lack in the Lacanian System
The negative feast really symbolizes is the act of a cut, an incision that occurs. The experience of lack that we humans understand as the cause of desire is itself comprised of these two events. We are at once linguistic social beings and biological embodied beings. These are the two basic elements of split subjectivity in the Lacanian system. Whatever there is one, there will be two; wherever to have gathered, my friends, there is always a third.
