The Problem of Food Fraud and Food Crime

I became interested in this subject a while ago I think just like looking at reading about the role of cartels in the avocado industry. The USDA banned import of avocados from Mexico because of a threat to an AFIS one of their officers was threatened by somebody related to organized crime in Michaudan. There are all these questions that are not answerable by the actual food itself by the commodity so there's just a lot of room across the sort of food system for fraud for people just making up things and then this sort of led me also to think about labeling as a way to signal different kinds of virtues in the food system.
