The Promise of the Holy Spirit

Jeremiah 31 helps us read the passage better because Jeremiah 31 told us they were given the letter on tablets of stone, but it hadn't yet been written on their heart. The Spirit hadn't actually worked in them as a large group such that they responded appropriately over the long haul. And so one of the great gifts Paul seems to be saying here is not just the sight of the coming of Jesus, but this side of the sending of the Holy Spirit.
