Diversions Day by Day

Fishing has this long aristocratic history if we're thinking about game fishing, fly fishing. So people had more time and could travel slightly further via the railway so they could get to some of these fishing spots that otherwise would have been a whole day's cycle ride away or walk. They became more accessible and this was encouraged often by employers and there was corporate fishing clubs. There were lots of competitions you'd go on a Sunday and sit around the muddy pool and try and pull out either the most numbers of fish or the biggest way,. The book Diversions Day by Day is written by Eustis Hamilton Miles - an Edwardian health reformer at the forefront of the physical culture movement
