The Cost of Identifying as a Member of an Identity Group

If you're just expressing and it's not costing you anything it's hard to distinguish following a norm from just self-interest. So where we go looking for evidence that people are influenced by norms is when those things conflict right when by following the norm you have to impose some cost on yourself. In politics so I've worked with some political scientists on on this mark pickup in Alina de Roy and Eric Cronentike on the ways in which identification as a member of an ideological group causes us to incur some costs"
