Psychologists often focus on language-based reasoning skills and visual reasoning skills. There's a great deal of heterogeneity in the DHH community which complicates test selection. Sometimes we have this bad habit of calling things nonverbal if it doesn't require language to administer or respond. Just because you might have a measure that does not require you to use language, that doesn't mean that they're not using a language-based mediation cognitively when solving a pattern task.
