Reparations would be meaningfully politically different from the status even if it's just because improving the lives and political conditions of black, ndigous, formally colonized people becomes an actual goal of the system. It will be a culture war to get reparations passed,. not because reparation s are intellectually anathema to the world but because people actually just don't want to help other people.

Olúfẹmi Táíwò is a philosopher and an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Georgetown University. He is the author of Reconsidering Reparations, and his latest book is Elite Capture: How the Powerful Took Over Identity Politics (And Everything Else).
