I Don't Know the Answer to a Question I Wouldn't Want to Ask a Student

Bonnie: I was petrified that a student would ask me a question and I wouldn't know the answer because it would devalue and delegitimize me being in front of the classroom. We do have issues if you're from an underrepresented group and a marginalized group women tend to have more difficulties than men in terms of legitimacy, she says. "Once you get into just explaining what I'm thinking and then I start asking questions how would you interpret this and it becomes this fabulous teachable moment," Bonnie adds.
