Putin's First President of Victory Election

On March 26, 2000, Putin wins his first term as president of Russia with 53% of the vote. He reasserted tighter control over Russia's 89 regions and republics than Yeltsin had almost immediately divides him into seven federal districts. After the 9 11 attacks in September, 2001, Putin announced his Russia support for the US in their anti terror campaign. But when the US then focuses their campaign on Saddam Hussein, Putin opposes US. And after he took further power, he moved further towards totalitarianism. Anything's Putin may have wanted to truly have a democracy at home, he now wants it elsewhere.
