In the late nineties, early os, companies like sun micro systems oracle shipped internet appliances. But nobody bought them because they didn't run windows. Nowadays you can do a lot of things on your computer that weren't possible 20 years ago. And i guess, to christenson's point, it wasn't the companies that were buying main frames that then boughtmicro computers. It was new businesses that did that.
