In the short run, there 's no doubt that its deflected energy and attention and resources. I don't think we could have chosen to stand aside and let russia succeed inan crane. In my view, the only really acceptable outcome would be a russian defeat. If we succeed in helping the ukranians defeat the russians, that should help us de divert more of our resources to asia. The result of this, in the longer run, are going to be increased european efforts,. diminished russian power and a more favorable balance in europe.
