The Anthropocene is a geologic epoch characterized by our human impact on earth's climate and ecosystems. A single mine in Canada's tar sands region moves 30 billion tons of sediment annually, double the quantity moved by all the world's rivers combined. We're altering the planet at rates that are nearly unprecedented in the geologic past. It's certainly not something to be proud of; it's like a Scarlet A for Anthropocene that we are wearing.
