Covered calls are sold as high income strategies with attractive risk adjusted returns under the hood. When you use the appropriate lenses to assess them and their risk adjusted returns, they're neither high income nor do they have attractive risk-adjusted returns net of fees and taxes. Empirically, when you look at funds that have been around for a while implementing these strategies, they've typically trailed a plain vanilla fund by a very wide margin.
