The Rise of Financial Sanctions in the United States
Sally Kohn: Why has there been this uptick in the use of financial sanctions by the U.S. government? She says part of it is a disillusionment with the old form of sanctions, things like trade embargoes. Sanctions offer you an alternative to going to war in every country, she says. But at least it lends itself to this idea of a more restrained foreign policy when it comes to the use of force.
