The Story of the American Chestnut Tree
There were billions of these trees all across this range. By the 1850s, a blight came in from the landscaping trade that absolutely decimated these trees and all that's left is just the ghost of those roots. Now scientists at State University of New York have been trying to figure out how they can create a chestnut tree that is blight resistance with one trans gene from wheat. And I believe this year is the year that these trees will be commercially available.
