The prosecution argued that Donald Hartung was ready to retire, but didn't have the money. So they argued one way to secure his future finances would be to kill his family. Still Donald claimed he didn't know about the will or how much money his mother's estate was worth. But then the prosecution brought in an inmate to testify against him. According to Marlon Purifoy, Donald eventually confessed everything to him and even got down to specifics.
