Hamilton's Disillusionment With the Constitution
Hamilton was the most unabashed proponent of a strong national authority. He's more worried about what he sees as a insufficiently vigorous or energetic federal government in relation to the state government. Hamilton always thinks that there's more danger to liberty from a weak government than a strong one. But by 1800, his arch enemy, Jefferson is elected president with a mandate to pare down the government's powers still further.
