I think Illich as you mentioned is extremely good on the kind of irrationality bureaucracy and the way in which bureaucracy itself and institutions become absolutely deranged I mean I was just traveling in Italy on the train and they still have mask you have to wear a mask on the train in Italy even though you don't have to wear it on the platform or anywhere else. You know there's just absolutely no reason for it whatsoever and yet you have the police come on with their guns and they shout at you if you're not wearing them. And then there's this kind of self- policing and by all accounts Germany we've had Eleanor Langer and others writing about the situation in Germany for compact.
