The Legend of Mansa Musa

Mansa Musa was the ruler of Mali in the 14th century. He travelled 3,000 miles from Cairo to see his new capital Timbuktu. His party found a dead whale washed up on the shore near Suez and ate it for food. They were attacked several times by bandits who stole all their gold. Mansa Musa then had to go around Cairo looking for cash so that he could pay people back with interest. This is known as oral history - which we talked about in this episode.
