The Role of the Overseer
Hospitality was absolute essential to the early church's life. Wealthy patrons and hosts would allow the church to meet in their homes. They would provide a place for missionaries and other christian ministers who are passing through to stay. Traits of the overseer were clearly needed on the island of crete. On crete, there seem to have been many people, particularly among the jews, professing christ who were not submitting to the church or the proper teaching.
