The United States' Long History of Coups and Assassinations

Coup d'etat is a French for blow or stroke of state. The term entered English in the 19th century, but coups date back to antiquity. At multiple points in history, from the 1800s to the present day, the United States has actively participated in and orchestrated coups. Some coups may result in the downfall of an entire country, while others focus on gaining control over a strategic region.
