We didn't even know that marine mammals made sounds early in the twentieth century. It's only when we began to see whales really impacted by loud noises generated by seismic testing or other ways that we put noise into the sea, by the ship traffic. Deep sea mining looms on the horizon. Perversely, its being touted as something tha we need to do for greet energy. But there are other sources on the land. When you dig big holes in the land, you displace a lot of creatures. And so pouring mercury into rivers and into ground water is toxic.
