The History of Baseball in Japan

The first to play the game in Japan were Americans in the foreign settlement of Yokohama. The extreme focus on team play required in baseball made it the ideal showcase for what was already being heralded as one of the great Japanese national strengths. In fact, up until the Russo-Japanese war there was a tendency among Westerners to think of Japanese men as a feat compared to themselves.
