DBS: A Game Changer for People With Parkinson's Disease
DBS is surgery to place transcranial leads from a target in the brain, often the subthalamic nucleus or the globus palitis and tenerina. It can help with dyskinesias, depending on the target, it can lower the amount of medication that somebody needs in a day. There are also risks to cognition and even psychiatric risk factors when we put DBS in the STN,. sometimes stimulation in that area can cause manic symptoms.
