When I entered the game industry, there wasn't any established language for talking about what games were. There weren't these schools of thought, there weren't these kind of critical debates. And so that eventually led to the book that Katie Salin and I wrote, Rules of Play which became a standard textbook. It felt like that playability was itself and had so many implications. For me, I think play is one way of understanding the moment we're living through in history,. One way of understanding how why people do this world? Because they love it.
