The Problem With Winston Churchill's Budgeting
Britain was suffering from the Great Depression and the burdensome cost of World War one. The colonies who had an interest like Australia and Canada, for example, weren't really able to contribute in the way that we perhaps expected them to. And yet even once the war had started, rather than withdrawing, Churchill insisted on sending HMS Prince of Wales and HMS repuls with three or four escorts. He insisted on sending them there, despite the fact that we're very ill suited and of course it ended in complete disaster.
