Wilson pickett wrote the song that would define his career. The official story is that steve cropper took those lines and worked with picket to write the song as a straight collaboration. But on the other hand, willie schofield, who collaborated with pickett, an i found a love said of writing that pickett didn't have any cord pattern. He felt he wrote the lyrics. So that's it.
