What's the Tension in the Culture of Education?
i was very much in the thick of an anti intellectual frontier america. There's that sort of country, city tension that runs through our literature back into the nineteenth century. And we have moved into the twentieth century, and we've become a culture of certification,. So what you used to learn in the apprentice shop, you now learn in a class room. But the tensions remain somewhere. I quote my cousin, he likes to say all time, it took a guy with a college degree to screw this up, and a man with a high school degree to fix it. That's part of the american spirit too, isn't it?
