The Origins of Electricity
In 1752, Benjamin Franklin had flown a kite into a thunderstorm and collected electrical charge from the sky. He was among the first to prove that electricity was indeed present in those stormy clouds above. A simple device, the laden jar, inspired awe as a storage bottle for electric fire. In the 18th century, before electric lamps turned night into day and the hum of motors to find the modern age, electricity was still new and thrilling.
