Women used to be routinely excluded from clinical trials, but that's no longer the case. There are certainly drug trials that do include pregnant people. But those trials tend to focus on pregnancy specific problems or challenges. Even drugs for conditions of pregnancy are not easy to study. You just go ahead and talk about preampsia research in your story.
