CHAPTER

The Effects of Caloric Restrictions on Lifetime Extension

There seems to be a trend that the ability from these kinds of simple interventions like caloric restriction to increase lifespan is shorter in longer lived organisms. Would 60 percent lifespan extension in a mouse translate to 60 percent longevity extension in people? We don't know. But I think it's a reasonable expectation that the percent effect at least probably gets smaller as you go to longer lived species. There's also some people who argue that the processes by which humans evolved long lifespan and other long lived animals, to some extent put them into a state that is already kind of gotten the benefits that you would get from poor restriction.
