What Happened to the Language of the Future?
Linguistics is the study of how society and politics influence the language. People in arab countries will use a local dialect for daily communication, but they'll use classical arabic at the mosque. In america and britain, recent emigrants might use their native language in the home, but english when speaking to other members of the community. There are always power dynamics between different languages used within a given society. Ireland is a fine example of how state policy and social stigma can bring a language to its knees.
