I imagine there is a boundary between awe and shudder. We don't know about the developmental unfolding of awe, its trajectories. Rachel Carson has this beautiful essay from 1956 or 7 on teaching children to wonder. Maybe compassion and awe are the keys to the good life for a young child. And I hope this book inspires a lot of people.
