The Utilitarian Approach to Animal Suffering
Do you think that groups like PETA adopt a kind of utilitarian way of thinking about animal suffering as opposed to a more rights-based viewpoint? For me, it just seems very obvious. The same amount of utility in a mouse or a human is of equal moral value. But there's some people who don't believe that they think that even if, let's say a chimp can suffer a broken leg as much as a human does, we still should treat humans better.
