Many europeans shuddered at the idea spending time splashing about in the water. When we came across africans who had no fear of water and could swim with ease, we were like, wo amazing. So africans were historically joyful in the water for hundreds of years. But that started a change in the fifteenth century. This is when europeans had boats that could travel across oceans. For those groups, this age brought about some very dark things, like others taking over their land and even slavement.
