The Effect of Covett on Poverty
One of the big economic takeaways that you see regarding the pandemic t was the effect that covet had on poverty in america. Well, what effect covett had on poverty really depends on how you count poverty. There's an official poverty measure that existed for a long time and by that measure there were more people who were in poverty. But starting a little over a decade ago, there was a new measure that was created called the supplemental poverty measure. And if you look at that supplemental way of thinking about poverty, the proportion of people in poverty actually got better in 20 20 than it had been the year before. It declined from almost 12 in 20 19 to just over nine %
