If you're valuating things by the standard of human well being, yes, the earth in the world is over all, much better. But if your standard is really unimpacted nature or wilderness, which it is for some people, then it is true that to day's world is bad precisely because we've impacted it so much. And if indeed your ideal world is the one what it was like eight thousand years ago or 12 thousand years ago, yes, and then things are a lot worse. That's not the case.
