Gorbachov was handed a failing system, and there was nothing he could really do. The word inevitability should not be applied to history at all,. This is the way we try to teach our students. Nothing is inevitable. Like, for instance, the trenoble disaster Happened. Nobody expected it. Lots of casualties. Howd it affect the situation? So i write about it. And my new paradime essentially is that without gorvachov's reforms, and the way they disabilized the system,nothing like what we saw would have been possible.
