The Kahlo painting from 1931 is a classic. In it, Frida paints Diego standing ramrod straight, enormous as a redwood. Her right hand gently touches Diego, while her left hand gathers her shawl around her torso. Even though she is the artist who painted this picture, she offers herself as wife, companion and an accessory to his main event.
