In a way, pirate enlightenment is a pendant to The Dawn of Everything. Both books seek to challenge received wisdom about the way that human societies have been organised and developed. Graeber argues that for most of human history, people lived in large complex, decentralised societies. Pirate ships had done this. And the confederation seems to have been at least a complex political experiment by, mostly by Malagasy.
