The taliban may have been organic in some sense, but they definitely had considerable covert ort from the pakestani intelligence service. They didn't want an unfriendly government on their their back doorstep if india decided to come knocking. I would wet, i would say this, that a lot of it seemed to me as though, and this may not, this maner may not be correct, but a lot of these guys had switched sides at the very end. And they knew which, they known the way the wind was blowing. And they chose wisely.
