Alpha Beta and Gamma Change in Developmental Psychology

In 1976, Gollum, Biewski, Billingsley, and Yeager introduced in a developmental psychology framework what they called alpha beta and gamma change. This was still 15 years before Bill Meredith even talked about measurement and variance in CFA. What that means is the very thing that you're studying changes over time. The writer said when scores on a tester observed to change, how can one tell whether it is the person who have changed or the tests? Once it is allowed that the pre test and post test measure different things, it becomes embarrassing to talk about change.
