You can't do any genomics without computationa tools and that was important, partly because there was a bottle neck. Most biologists are not computational and they don't have that training. So by instromenticians in most departments are pretty rare. I wouldn't even call my what i wrote, programmes, cause now i work with real programmers, and i would be ashamed to be even sary.
