Is There a Definition of Addiction in the DSM?
When I use the term addiction, I'm referring to the diagnostics statistical manual of the American Psychiatric Association number five. That's what I'm talking about. But that definition continues to evolve. And so you're right. They still are working it out. We get new information from scientific studies and so forth. So it's supposed to be incorporated into the DSM. But there are some problems with the DSM. Like for example, they also have this sort of one, synatic, always an addict thing. There's no evidence to support that. You have to meet these criteria where you have disruptions in your psychosocial functioning. People have to meet those two basic criteria before we say
