How to Start a Meetup Group
If you're looking to start something, I would say start small. If you want to become an organizer on meetup.com, it's probably not going to break the bank. You might even be able to get your workplace to pay for it. They have community chapters that you can join or you can put your hand up and offer to lead a community chapter. It all starts with some initiative to sort of get out of outside of your comfort zone and be an organizer.
