Pullman and the American Railway Union
During the economic downturn, things went from bad to worse for these workers. Pullman slashed worker wages in some cases by up to half without cutting rents or grocery costs. Workers had been feeding on the job, having not eaten in days after feeding their kids. And that led him into really the most important labor conflict of the 19th century in the United States.
