The New Danger to Liberty Comes From Majority Facts
A faction, according to james madison, is a group of citizens that is united by a common passion. Majority factions leverages their influence at the expense of other citizens or the interests of the community. At the state level, these majority factions would override old legislation and institute new laws at the expense of minority groups and opposing political parties. The founders hoped that the new constitution would better control the effects of majority factions by creating a system of government that relied on checks and balances. Many of the founders believed that a bill of rights would not be as effective when compared to the provisions writtn into the constitution in 17 17 87.
