The Evolution of the Mihirung Birds

The mihirung birds were able to get information from medullary bone, which is the special bone in female birds that stores calcium for them to be able to lay eggs. So they are able to get an idea of where that sinks up with maturity as well. In comparing them with other members of the group, they found that this growth rate changes through time during a time when the environment was also shifting. It's thought that even with this evolutionary trend happening within this group, that they still likely were not able to compete with emus. That wer out breeding that were still maturing faster, hitting maturity more quickly and able to breed sooner after hatching than even the youngest
