The Story of Jim Jones and the Pentecostal Church
Jim Jones spent his childhood fending for himself. He was an outcast in primary school and earned the nickname Dennis the Manus. The social isolation took its toll, and Jones recalled how it affected him. As a teenager, Jim Jones had no interest in sport or socialising. He saw dancing and drinking alcohol as sinful. Instead, he kept his face deep in books and his mind lost in political thought. From his study of Hitler to Mahatma Gandhi, Jones began a self-styled theology that combined God with society.
