How to Help Your Students Become Skillful Readers

If you have a student who is still struggling with word recognition skills and can't accurately read a text, it does not matter how much support you give them. It's like giving someone a pile of wood, a set of construction plans and a hammer and asking them to build a playhouse. They are missing a necessary tool in order to complete the construction project. You know, if we want our students to be skilled readers, we need to take the time. We need to meet them where they are at.
